The Black Lives Matter movement is not something that is just promoted by everyday individuals, but also something that affects and is promoted by celebrities. A majority of the individuals creating social media posts relating to the movement are Black, however this is because the injustices and deaths of innocent Black Americans affect them more than other individuals. The celebrity posts were mainly in response to the police shooting and death of Alton Sterling who was shot to death by the police for selling CD's. The celebrities used a variety of different platforms to express their shock and protest, with some utilizing Instagram such as Tyga who posted a powerful photo with the phrase DON'T SHOOT written on his hands and the caption:

Stand up and fight for whats right it could your family next! #blacklivesmatter yes #alllivesmatter Too but its the BLACK LIVES being murdered! SO let's fix that first!!!!!

Beyonce utilized her own website and posted a statement:

Other celebrities such as John Legend, Olivia Wilde, Jesse Williams and Justin Timberlake took to Twitter to express their outrage of the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Although Olivia Wilde was the only individual to use the Black Lives Matter hashtag, the posts are all related to the Black Lives Matter movement and show that the movement is effective because it is based off of real grievances that affect even celebrities. With the influence of celebrities on social media, the movement was able to attract more followers and supporters.
