According to this news article, the majority of Americans view Black Lives Matter in a negative way and the views of the organization are heavily divided based off of race. According to this poll 35% of white Americans, and 43% of voters view the organization in a positive light. Politically only 21% of Republicans have a positive view of the organization, while on the Democratic side a whopping 65% of Democrats view the organization in a positive light.
The online survey questioned 2051 registered voters, over a 5 day time period, surveying 37% Democrat, 31% Republican, 27% independent, 4% other, 65% white, 14% Hispanic and 12% Black/African American.
From the results of this poll, it inferred that half of the individuals polled believe that the criminal justice system is unfair to minorities and the other half believe it is fair. 85% of black voters believe there is a bias in the system, while 60% of white voters believe the system is just to minorities.
The article shows that it is not easy for individuals to understand the perspectives of others, as it is evident in this poll that white Americans had such different results regarding Black Lives Matter, and the Criminal Justice System, when compared with Black Americans. This article helps to show why organizations like Black Lives Matter exist, due to the fact that individuals who are not Black or African-American are not able to understand or even know about the racism and violence that occurs towards black communities and the injustices that occur to black communities.
